When we’re talking about your coaching program, or you’re booking me for your next conference or corporate event, I turn to the table of contents for THINK Like a BLACK BELT and I start reading…
- Excellence
- Discipline
- Focus
- Confidence
- Power
- Perseverance
- Mastery
- Leadership
- Courage
- Compassion
- Wisdom
- and Self-Perfection
Then I ask, “Which of these do you want to work on?”
I can help you improve and develop in any of these fundamental characteristics of Black Belt Mindset. If you apply these characteristics you can dramatically improve your life or your organization. You may reach new levels of personal and professional excellence. You may exceed your wildest expectations and achieve all your goals and dreams…
…or not.
Given the state of affairs in the personal development industry over the past couple of years, I feel compelled to disclose exactly what you can expect from my program.
I do promote my work with testimonials and I’m grateful for them. But- here’s the disclaimer…
“Results may vary. The results presented in these testimonials are those of highly motivated individuals who have committed themselves to doing the hard work necessary to make changes in their lives.”
I know the FTC is cracking down on the “results may vary” disclaimer and I understand why. Too bad- this disclaimer reflects a fundamental truth: Only YOU can improve your SELF.
That doesn’t excuse diet pill manufacturers…or self-help gurus from making false claims. However- I don’t care if you’re talking about a diet, an exercise machine or a personal development program…especially a personal development program; your results may vary widely from those who use it successfully.
To paraphrase an ancient martial arts proverb:
“The teacher’s responsibility is to teach. It’s the student’s responsibility to learn.”
I’ll add- if you want to get the job done; do the work.
Most of my students thank me when they accept their Black Belts at my martial arts center. While I’m grateful for their acknowledgement, I always say, “You did this- this is your belt.”
Sure that student had a lot of help along the way, teachers, friends, family- but ultimately, the student did the work and earned the belt.
Results vary because some people are willing to do the work, and others want the work done for them. As a teacher my responsibility is to share my story with you. I can tell you what worked for me and try to show you how to do it…
…for yourself.
The rest is up to you.
We actually inserted a clause in my Black Belt Mindset Coaching agreement. It reads:
“If you do not complete the assigned work, I will discontinue working with you and I will keep your money.”
I can guarantee that!
I know how hard it is to make changes in your life. I went from drug addict and dropout to Black Belt…I’m not preaching from the mountain!
It’s impossible when you’re not willing to do the work. If you don’t want to do the work, don’t sign up for my program. Don’t book me for your next even unless you’re willing to support the process of continual self-improvement in your organization.
I can’t make you THINK Like a BLACK BELT; all I can do is show you how.
The rest is up to you.
When you read a testimonial about THINK Like a BLACK BELT, I guarantee that person embraced the process of continual self-perfection. I guarantee that person went above and beyond whatever they learned from me.
I’m extremely grateful for any testimonials on behalf of my work. I’m much more gratified in the knowledge that if you apply what I teach and make something of it, the results are yours and yours alone.
It’s your Black Belt…strap it on!
“Go to the people. Live with them. Learn from them. Love them. Start with what they know. Build with what they have. But with the best
leaders, when the work is done, the task accomplished, the people will say ‘We have done this ourselves.” ~Lao Tzu

My sentiments exactly, Jim. I have found since starting my coaching practice in 1996, that I only want to work with clients who are RAW- Ready, Able, & Willing to do the required fieldwork to help them focus on steps toward THEIR desired results! They are the creators of their own thoughts, words, and actions (TWA)! I only reflect back their TWA to help them take flight! Sorry, I am in constant acronym mode. It helps me abbreviate concepts if I give them acroNAMES!

Amen Filomena!
