We’ve got some major challenges ahead of us right now…

Because too many people, especially young people, have never been taught that perfection is a process and that it requires a commitment to excellence and it takes discipline and focus to get where you want to go.

Because too many people have lost confidence…in the system and in themselves. They’ve forgotten that confidence comes from facing challenges- that it’s a process of developing power and perseverance. They’ve believed the lie that power is for someone else who is either somehow born with it or somehow found the right scam to get it and keep it away from everyone else.

Because too many people have abdicated the responsibility of leadership. They’re waiting for saviors and they’re buying into the false promises of gurus. They feel entitled instead of empowered. They’ve lost the courage to do what’s right even when it’s tough. They’ve lost the compassion to reach out and walk in the other guy’s shoes and they’ve lost respect for the wisdom of those who have gone before.

Because too many people are willing to surrender personal freedom and liberty in exchange for someone else’s measure of security and comfort. They believe that scholars and politicians understand fairness and have a clearer vantage from which to determine what is best for them. They believe the police are there to protect them rather than to respond to their call. They believe it’s better to invade the privacy of everyone rather than risk offending likely suspects with probable cause. They believe they are entitled to more than life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. They feel entitled to heath, safety and material security, even at the expense of others. They believe the government, rather than the individual is the best judge of human nature, best arbiter of fairness and best allocator of property, labor and prosperity.

Because too many have never been taught that freedom is always at risk. They’ve never learned that those who have little confidence in the good tendency of men are those who are first to restrict freedom of the person in the name of assuring freedom for the people. They’ve never experienced the best nature of their fellow man facing while facing ultimate adversity and do not know the trust that comes from risking their lives with comrades for a worthy cause.

Because far too many have never been taught that gratitude is the appropriate response to even the most modest contribution to their welfare. They respond instead with demands for more. They believe that anything they lack is the result of someone else’s abundance. They fail to realize that success is only shared through effort and is never the result of charity. They believe falsely that advancement is only possible through the deprivation of others rather than through unrestricted enterprise.

Because so many people have never learned the authentic Spirit of Independence. They do not realize the fragility of our great experiment in self-governance. They refuse to understand that a group does not have rights, a group does not have responsibilities- only persons have rights and responsibilities. They fail to understand that We The People is not a collective entity, but is a description of the power and dedication of the voluntary cooperative shared by the most diverse collection of persons in history.

Because too many people do not know, or worse, fail to acknowledge that the freedom of our society is wholly dependent upon the freedom of each individual in our society; and that it is the responsibility of each individual to protect and defend that freedom.
